Opportunities From: Pride Northwest

The gate crew is in charge of greeting folks that come into the festival. They will be:

-Taking suggested donations at the entrances

-Handing out stickers

-Passing out information/directing people with questions to the Info Booth

-Serving as crowd control at the entry point to the festival

Folks taking the first early shift, before the festival, will serve as gate monitors. Ensuring that people don't come into the space early. 

Important note: Open water bottles/liquid containers are not allowed inside the festival, but empty water bottles and unopened beverages (such as soda cans) are allowed. There will be a water refill station within the festival.

Pride Northwest's Pride Elder Connections is participating in the senior tent this year and partnering with multiple organizations including Elder Pride Services, the VA and the CfPA. We're offering new programming and meals this year. We are currently in need of a few volunteers to engage in the senior tent.

Tent volunteers will help with light set up, and some decorating of tent, welcoming folx, and sharing the layout of the tent that includes access to the VA tent. Volunteers will be sharing information and brochure for Pride Elder Connections, sharing sign in information and helping with distributing food and beverages, directing folx to more resources, free body work and purchasing and book signing of 2 local elder artists.

Customer service experts needed to help check guests in at the VIP entrance. Other tasks include keeping the spaces tidy, assisting guests with directions to festival attractions, and troubleshooting issues.

*Please note the first morning shifts require an aspect of food and VIP area set up. 

Volunteers will assist in directing blocks of parade contingents onto the main launch point. This opportunity requires individuals to swiftly travel 2-3 blocks multiple times over about a three hour period.

Expectations:

-Assist festival exhibitors during curbside load-in

-Direct cars and greet exhibitors providing a permit and a paper for their booth number/name and phone number

-Alert Pride Northwest staff to vehicles parked for excessive amounts of time

Goals:

-Help direct traffic

-Ensure exhibitors are loading in their supplies safely and in a timely manner

End of Parade Volunteers help keep floats moving and non-parade participants out of the road. They also help direct floats as they leave the parade.

Volunteers will respond to immediate needs of parade contingents and check in booths. This opportunity does require mobility, potentially over curbs and uneven grassy areas.

General parade volunteers will be prepared to respond to immediate unforeseen need, including filling in spots when other assigned volunteers are unable to attend their shift.

As Parade Barricade/Floaters, volunteers will be expected to:

After the fun has been had, we have much to pack up and remove from the Waterfront Park! The primary needs will be to

-assist in loading totes and patio furniture into trucks or cars

-meet at the unload destination to help unload. 

For this opportunity, you should be able to assist in lifting items between 50 - 70 lbs, and it is helpful if you have reliable transportation.  Volunteers will meet at the Tom McCall Waterfront Park, and then be dispatched to the unload destination with a Pride staff, as needed.

Volunteers will be stationed at the intersections of the parade route, to ensure that attendees do not impede the path of parade contingents.

 Volunteers will monitor for and report any potential unsafe circumstances or situations to staff, leads or peace officers.

Volunteer tasks include:

-initial set up of VIP areas or information booths such as setting up the tents 

-other miscellaneous tasks as needed.

*Thursday will focus on unloading and setting up furniture in VIP and artist areas

This volunteer opportunity is specific to ensuring accessibility is being proactively monitored, addressed and acted upon during the operating hours of the Portland Waterfront Pride Festival. Tasks for this opportunity include, but may not be limited to:

Festival runners report directly to Parade Leads and will follow their direction. Tasks include a variety of tasks depending on what is needed in the moment.

Volunteers will be stationed at either a volunteer check-in, or information booth. This is great for people who like to multi-task and problem solve! As the hub for festival coordination, it can be a chaotic environment at times, busy with people and questions. A cool, calm head is necessary as well as a good understanding of festival layout and organization.
